The School of Russian Studies (SRS) was founded in 2005 with a mission to provide quality education on Russia and to utilize excellent teaching resources and research opportunity available at the State University - Higher School of Economics (HSE) and its rich infrastructure for educating international English-speaking students and researchers interested in Russian Studies.
The primary aim of the School is to create a more distinct focus on Russia's historical, cultural and social sciences research of past and present, and thus to improve the environment for joint and individual research on Russia, including interdisciplinary and comparative approaches.
The School of Russian Studies offers international students and researchers a wide range of courses in Russian Studies including Economy, Politics and International Relations, History, Culture and the Russian Language. Lectures and seminars are delivered by renowned Russian and internationally recognized professors. The leading figures in Academia as well as top policy makers are also involved in academic process. SRS is working in close contact with Russia's leading analytical centers, international organizations and agencies.
Since 2005, SRS has been a source of education on Russia to more than 180 international students. It concentrates mostly on the following programs: SRS Summer Schools, Spring and Autumn Semesters. From 2008, the School of Russian Studies opened an International Master's Program in Political Science & International Relations in collaboration with the University of Kent (UK). All courses in the programs are HSE-approved and listed in the academic schedule. Teaching is in English and takes place in the HSE main building in downtown Moscow.
SRS aims also to promote knowledge and discussion of Russia in the broader academic community and with the public at large. Its activities enhance the quality of both postgraduate and undergraduate teaching for students with an interest in Russia.
