Visa issues
International students apply for visa with the following set of documents (as provided by Russian Federal Migration Service):
- a valid identity document, accepted as such by the Russian Federation;
- a completed visa application form with one photograph;
- one photograph (30x40 mm);
- a medical insurance policy, unless otherwise provided for by international agreements of the Russian Federation;
- an additional certificate proving that the applicant does not have HIV (AIDS), in case the foreign national applies for a visa for a term exceeding three months;
- an original visa support letter.
Initially the foreign students of the HSE receive the two-entry visa for 90 days, which is afterwards converted into multi-one without leaving Moscow.
In order to prolong the duration of your stay assigned in your visa you need to come to HSE International Department at least 2 weeks beforehand and have 3 photos on 30 by 40 mm on mat surface paper. You will also have to pay state duty of 400 R, filling in the receipt you will get in International Dept.
It is strongly recommended to be very accurate with the timing!
Important!
We would like to clarify some important questions concerning visa matter and registration in Moscow.
1. All students usually receive a student visa that is valid for 90 days. It then needs to be extended for the period you stay in Russia.
2. When you come to Russia (already at the airport) you are to fill in a migration card (an important document that you should keep while you are in Russia and then give it back at the passport control when you leave the country). Do not lose a migration card! If it happens, immidiately apply to the Police and tell that you lost it around the dorm. ( tel. 8 499 249 86 86, Kulkova st., 14, metro station Kutuzovskaya). You will receive a reference. Then apply with it to the Central Migration Office (the address is Pyatnickaya st., 49) to receive a new migration card. Tutors will help you as regards russian speaking and translating.
3. The migration card is valid without registration for 3 days. You must then obtain a registration card.
4. The registration card can be obtained from the Migration Office. A person can be registered at the place he/she lives or by the organisation he/she comes to. So we will prepare the registration cards (which should be returned to our office before you leave the country).
5. So you must inform us about all your departures and arrivals and apply for registration the day after your arrival. The department responsible for student co-ordination, registration and visa matters is situated on Pokrovsky boulevard, 8 (the administrative building of the HSE) Room 205, Centre for International Education. To register you, we need a copy of your passport (+ visa page) and copy of your migration card. Copies can be made at our office.
6. Remember that we have only 3 days to arrange the registration, so it is better to come the next day you arrive to our office. In the event that you come later than 3 days, you will have to pay a fine of approximately 5,000 roubles per day to the Migration Service.
7. The next step is to extend the visa. This must be done 40-days before the visa expires. You should bring a copy of your passport, a copy of your migration card and a copy of your registration card to the office at 205 (before the deadline). You also need 6 photos (3 cm x 4 cm) on matt paper.
